SPRING SPORTS PARENT/STUDENT INFO MTG There will be a spring sports informational meeting for any interested Maranacook High School students on March 21st in the HS gym. The HS coaches, parents and students will meet from 6:00 - 7:00. Any questions, please contact Al MacGregor at 685-4923 x322.


Air Force Recruiter An Air Force Recruiter will visit the guidance office on March 17th at 9:00. Please sign up with Val in guidance if you wish to speak with him.


University of Maine at Augusta Visit A rep from the University of Maine at Augusta will visit the guidance office on April 1st at 12:00. Sign up with Val if interested in meeting with the rep.


Marine Recruiter A marine recruiter will visit the guidance office on March 16 to speak with Juniors interested in the NROTC program. Sign up with Val if interested.


Tractor Safety Course Tractor Safety course is being offered. It is a 5 week course, beginning April 5th at Kramer Tractor in Sidney from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Registration fee is $20.00. See Val if interested.


SPRING MUSICAL "GUYS & DOLLS" PERFORMANCES ARE MARCH 31, APRIL 1, 2 & 3 AT 7:00 P.M. AND A MATINEE PERFORMANCE ON APRIL 3 AT 2:00 P.M. TICKET PRICES ARE $7 GENERAL ADMISSION AND $5 STUDENTS/SENIOR CITIZENS. THE MATINEE ON APRIL 3 IS FREE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS. CALL 685-4923 EXT.335 TO RESERVE YOUR TICKETS.


Maranacook Fishing Derby - CANCLLED The Football Ice Fishing DerbyÊ on Saturday, March 13th hasÊbeen cancelled due to the ice conditions.Ê We will try again next year.Ê See you all on the football field in the fall.


Ala-Teen Group Meeting An Ala-Teen group is starting on March 1st and will meet Mondays (weekly) from 11-12 in Conference Room B at the high school. This is a group for MS and HS students whose lives are affected by someone else's drinking (or drug use). It's an opportunity to learn that you cannot change another person but that you can detach from the users problems and learn to take care of yourself. All students are welcome to participate. Middle school students can let Vicky or Gwen know in the wellness center. High school students can let Cindy Flye know in the health center. Middle school students can meet at the Wellness Center and walk over to the high school together. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch to the group. Students will have appointment passes to participate. This kind of group can help students cope better day to day and allow you to be more successful in school.

TINGLEY BROOK - 2010 PUBLICATION SUBMISSIONS Tingley Brook, our award winning literary magazine, is now accepting submissions for the 2010 publication. See the high school website for submission forms. We will publish your poetry, short stories, essays, photos, and artwork. Deadline is April 30th, 2010. See Ms. Melcher if you have questions.

Awesome Bear Society Notice The Awesome Bear Society would like to thank all who participated in our Winter Concessions. Because of you, we made a profit of $2,426.49, which funds will be used to benefit the extra-curricular and co-curricular programs at MCHS. We look forward to seeing you at our concession stand at the track when spring sports begin.


SUMMER JOBS!! Manchester Summer Recreation Program will be hiring full time and alternate counselors for its summer program that begins June 28, 2010 and runs for 6 weeks.Ê The applications are available at the front office of the HS and at the Town Office.Ê The applications should be sent to the Manchester Town Office by March 31.Ê Interviews will be conducted on or about April 2, 2010.Ê For more information, you may call the Manchester Town Office at 622-1894, or Margaret Manley, Chair, at 621 2992.

VOTE FOR FAMILY LITERACY GRANT Help Maranacook Adult Education win a $50,000 family literacy grant. Go to Maranacook.maineadulted.org, Click on Vote. (The first time, you register with Pepsi.) Please vote for the Maranacook Bears (beginning early achieves reading success). PLEASE VOTE DAILY. The top ten in each money category will be awarded the grant on March 31, 2010. CLASS OF 2011 PARENT MEETING Class of 2011 parents are meeting on APRIL 12, 2010, 6:30pm in the High School Media Center to begin planning fundraising events for project graduation for the Class of 2011.Ê

The last supervised weight room date is 3/19/10. The weight room will be closed after that date.


BASEBALL MEETING
There will be a baseball information meeting held Monday 3/15 in Room 170 at 2:45. Anybody interested in playing baseball in the spring please plan on attending this meeting.


SAT Prep offered at Maranacook High School Just in time for the May 1 SAT exam date. These preparatory courses for the SAT have proven helpful to high school students who aim to improve their verbal and math scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The course includes test-taking tactics, drill work, vocabulary lists, algebraic and geometric concepts and a familiarity with the test that will help students feel more prepared. Students in the English course will respond to two writing prompts, which the instructor will correct and comment on.
English, 4 Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m., begins March 30
Math, 4 Thursdays, 6-9 p.m., begins April 1
Registration for both English & Math SAT Prep $185 (when paid by March 23)
English only, $99 (when paid by March 23) Math only, $99 (when paid by March 25)
SAT prep book (covers both subjects) $17 due at registration.
